Ukrainian drones struck the St. Petersburg region in Russia overnight into Sunday, 18 October, according to local media, companies and officials. St. Petersburg is Russia's second-largest city and an important port and transport hub, so the attack affects infrastructure in the country's northwest. It comes during the war that Russia launched against Ukraine.

What has been confirmed

Officials confirmed that a fire broke out at an oil terminal in St. Petersburg after the drone strike. The internet company VKontakte confirmed that its data center was hit.

The online retailer Ozon reported an attack on one of its logistics centers in the city. The company said all employees were evacuated immediately and nobody was injured, but a fire started.

The city's transport committee said a section of an expressway in western St. Petersburg was temporarily closed because of the drone strike. The closed section includes a cable-stayed bridge over the Bolshaya Neva, beneath which ships pass.

Unconfirmed reports

Videos published on Telegram show a drone strike on the Leningrad region. Channels on the platform say the St. Petersburg port was hit. Citing eyewitnesses, they also report that a drone may have struck the bridge during the overnight attack. The source does not provide official confirmation of these claims.
