Drones knock out one of Russia’s biggest refineries for second time this year

Rosneft has suspended operations at its Ryazan refinery following a Ukrainian drone attack on July 29, Reuters reported, citing sources. The outage is expected to last approximately two weeks.
The Ryazan refinery is one of Russia's largest oil processing facilities. In 2024, it processed 13.1 million metric tons of crude oil, accounting for 4.9% of the country's total refining capacity. Alongside plants in Yaroslavl and Kstovo (Nizhny Novgorod region), the Ryazan refinery supplies gasoline to the Moscow region.
This is the second shutdown at the refinery this year. In mid-May, it was closed for repairs that took over two months.
No details have been released about the extent of damage from the latest strike or any casualties.
