A large fire broke out at the Perm oil refinery in Russia after a Ukrainian drone attack, hitting a facility that supplies fuel to both the military and civilian sectors.
On Sunday, July 29, a major fire erupted at the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Perm, Russia, following a Ukrainian drone strike. According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the fire engulfed a primary oil processing unit, which is one of the refinery's key technological installations.
The refinery is among Russia's largest, with the capacity to process nearly 13 million tons of oil annually. It provides fuel for both the Russian army and the civilian sector. The SBU emphasized that strikes on such refineries are strategically important, as they produce fuel for the occupation army's military equipment, aviation, and logistics. Additionally, the oil refining industry remains one of the main sources of revenue for the Russian budget, which funds the war against Ukraine.
Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has been ongoing since February 24, 2022, while the conflict began in 2014 with Russia's annexation of Crimea and hostilities in Donbas. The latest incident indicates that Ukrainian forces continue to systematically target Russia's military infrastructure.
