Ukraine's Security Service says it thwarted FSB plot to assassinate Russian opposition leader in Kyiv, several wounded in street shootout

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has announced that it uncovered and prevented an assassination plot organized by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), targeting a Russian opposition leader residing in Kyiv. A shootout broke out on the street during the incident, leaving several people wounded.

According to the SBU, the clash followed reports of the disappearance of a commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, as well as a separate Ukrainian investigation into an alleged Russian attempt to organize an assassination.

Ukrainian authorities have not yet released further details about the exact sequence of events, the number or identities of those wounded, or whether any suspects have been detained or identified. It also remains unclear whether the missing commander has since been located.
