Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, an adviser to the Ukrainian president and a radio technology expert, has released photographs of a modified Russian Boomerang unmanned aerial vehicle. According to Beskrestnov, the updated drone now includes a target-guidance function, along with changes to its radio control parameters. He listed enhancements such as diversity reception, rapid frequency switching on antennas, and video transmission above 6 GHz.

Russian forces deploy multiple variants of the Boomerang drone on the front line. Earlier versions include an FPV kamikaze drone weighing 3.1 kg, capable of speeds around 200 km/h, with a reported flight altitude of up to 1 km and a range of about 5 km, as per the War&Sanctions portal. Another variant, the Boomerang-E, has a maximum take-off weight of 5.8 kg and a flight range of up to 10 km. Its control frequency operates between 868-950 MHz, with video transmission in the 5333-5945 MHz band.

In related reporting, Beskrestnov previously shared a map indicating regions facing an elevated threat from jet-powered Shahed kamikaze drones equipped with online guidance capabilities. He also noted that Russian forces are testing a new fixed-wing attack drone that employs fiber-optic communication.
