Ukraine's General Staff Confirms Strikes on Saratov Oil Refinery, Engels Airfield, and Fuel Depots
Ukrainian forces struck the Saratov oil refinery, Engels airfield, and a fuel depot in Kaluga Oblast overnight, causing fires and disrupting Russian military logistics, the General Staff reported.
Ukraine's defence forces carried out strikes on multiple Russian military facilities on the night of 1-2 August, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The targets included the Saratov oil refinery, Engels airfield, a fuel depot in Kaluga Oblast, and other military installations.
A fire broke out at the Saratov oil refinery following the strike. The facility has an annual capacity of about 7 million tonnes of oil and is involved in supplying Russian troops and the country's military-industrial complex, the General Staff said.
Hits and a fire were also recorded at the Engels airfield, which hosts Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers. Ukrainian forces additionally struck the Lyudinovo fuel depot in Kaluga Oblast and a storage, preparation, and launch site for attack drones near Navlya in Bryansk Oblast.
On 1 August, Ukrainian defence forces also targeted Russian ground control stations in Kursk, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Earlier reports indicated that several Russian regions came under attack overnight. An oil refinery was hit in Saratov, an airfield was struck in Engels, and a fire broke out at a Wildberries logistics centre in the settlement of Novosemeikino in Samara Oblast following a drone attack.
