Oleh Luhovskyi, deputy head of Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service, told the German magazine "Der Spiegel" that the possibility of Russian military aggression against the European Union should not be dismissed as unrealistic. According to him, Russia's military strategy through 2045 includes, as one of several possible scenarios, the deployment of armed forces against European countries.
Hundreds of agents across Europe
Luhovskyi told the outlet that at least 366 Russian intelligence service employees are currently operating within European countries. He did not specify which countries these individuals are active in or what particular roles they are carrying out.
Context
The statements suggest Ukraine's intelligence service continues to monitor Russia's long-term military planning and its potential implications for European security. Luhovskyi's remarks about the scale of Russian intelligence presence in Europe point to an extensive and ongoing espionage effort that, in Ukraine's assessment, is likely to persist regardless of how the war in Ukraine develops.
