Ukrainian war veteran from Hostomel recovers in Latvia and helps inspire others
Ukrainian soldier Dmytro Rybachenko, who has been undergoing rehabilitation at the Vaivari centre in Latvia since being wounded at the front in autumn 2022, continues working to regain his mobility while advocating for wounded servicemen in Ukraine.
Ukrainian serviceman Dmytro Rybachenko first came to Latvia in the autumn of 2022, after being wounded on the front line of the Russia-Ukraine war, to undergo treatment at the Vaivari rehabilitation centre.
Even at that early stage, Dmytro stood out for his attitude. Local staff and residents were reportedly surprised that soldiers with severe injuries could still joke and remain optimistic despite their condition.
A daily struggle to regain mobility
Since his first visit, every day has represented another step for Dmytro toward his goal of regaining mobility partially lost due to his injuries. He continues his rehabilitation, a process that requires ongoing persistence and patience.
Sporting achievements and advocacy
Rybachenko has achieved notable results in sport, which has become an important part of his recovery and of rebuilding his confidence. Alongside his personal rehabilitation, he actively advocates for the interests and rights of wounded Ukrainian servicemen.
Through both his words and actions, Dmytro seeks to inspire other wounded soldiers not to give up in the face of hardship. His outlook reflects a conviction that even the most difficult obstacles can be overcome through determination — as he himself puts it, if needed, they will move mountains.
