Ukraine's military has used a net launcher mounted on a drone to trap and then kill a Russian infantryman on the front line in the war with Russia. The report comes from Ptashka Drones, the company that develops and manufactures such devices, which also released video of the incident.

According to the manufacturer, the operation was carried out by soldiers of Ukraine's 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. They first tried to hit the Russian soldier with an FPV drone (a drone piloted via a live camera feed), but missed. A second drone then dropped a net on him, trapping him.

The company says the Russian soldier could not free himself from the net and was later killed by the brigade's soldiers using FPV drones.

What is known about the Ptashka net launcher

Ptashka is a reusable weapon designed against FPV drones. It comes with several net cartridges, each costing between US$27 and US$33. The company says it has developed interception systems for both FPV drones and reconnaissance UAVs such as the Mavic, Autel and Matrix.

The nets intended for intercepting FPV drones measure 3.7 × 3.7 metres, and the recommended firing distance is 1 to 10 metres.

Earlier case

Ukrainska Pravda previously reported that Ukrainian forces downed a Russian Molniya attack drone using an interceptor drone fitted with a Ptashka net launcher.
