According to him, Washington's call for Ukraine's allies to brace for years of war is a clear sign that no sudden or "miraculous" de-escalation of the situation should be expected in the near future.
The commander stressed that the Kremlin only understands force, which is why the West should increase pressure on Russia now, before winter sets in, rather than searching for compromises or waiting for hostilities to wind down on their own. In his view, the US message about a prolonged conflict should not be seen as a negative surprise but as a realistic assessment reflecting the actual situation on the front line and Moscow's unwillingness to seek genuine compromise.
He backed up his position by citing his unit's own results — tens of thousands of destroyed Russian targets — which he said show that continued military pressure and support remain the most effective way to influence the Kremlin's behavior. His remarks come as Ukraine's allies gather in the Ramstein format to discuss further military support for Kyiv, and suggest that part of Ukraine's military leadership sees no near-term prospect of the war ending quickly.
