Ukrainian military reports record Russian troop losses in July

Ukraine’s General Staff says Russian forces lost 42,860 personnel in July 2026, the highest monthly figure this year. Over the first seven months, Russian losses reportedly reached 238,650.

Ukraine’s General Staff has reported that Russian armed forces suffered record personnel losses in July 2026, the highest monthly total since the beginning of the year. According to the military, Russia lost 42,860 troops in July.

Monthly figures provided by the General Staff show a steady increase in recent months. In January, Russian losses were put at 31,710; in February at 26,090; in March at 31,960; in April at 32,980; in May at 33,760; and in June at 39,290. The July total is the largest so far in 2026.

For the first seven months of 2026 combined, the General Staff said Russia’s personnel losses amounted to 238,650.

Separately, on 31 July, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave an estimate of Ukraine’s own war losses. He said Ukraine has lost around 50,000 people killed and 400,000 wounded. In the same interview, when asked about Russian casualties compared with Ukraine’s, Zelenskyy stated that Russia has suffered a total of 1,600,000 losses, including roughly 700,000 deaths.
