Ukraine's parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, voted on Tuesday to support President Volodymyr Zelensky's proposal to remove Ruslan Kravchenko from his position as prosecutor general.

The decision means Kravchenko will no longer hold the country's top prosecutorial oversight role. Zelensky had submitted the proposal to parliament for consideration, and lawmakers approved it.

What comes next

It is not yet known who will be nominated as the new prosecutor general or how the process will proceed further. A change in the prosecutor general's post is a significant administrative step in Ukraine, as the office oversees the country's prosecution system, including high-level corruption investigations and other criminal cases.
