Ukraine's Flamingo Missile Maker Fire Point Faces Delay of Danish Plant to 2027 as Costs Could Triple

Denmark's government has removed more than 20 legal barriers to help clear the way for a rocket-fuel production plant that Ukraine's Fire Point company plans to build in the country. Fire Point is known as the manufacturer of the long-range Flamingo cruise missile, which has become one of the more prominent symbols of Ukraine's wartime defense industry.

Despite the removal of these bureaucratic obstacles, existing safety regulations still require the company to construct an entirely new factory building rather than adapt existing facilities. This requirement is among the factors pushing back the project's timeline — the plant is now expected to become operational only in 2027, later than originally hoped.

Costs may rise sharply

Alongside the schedule slip, the financial picture for the project has also shifted, with costs potentially climbing to as much as triple the amount originally anticipated. The situation illustrates that setting up new production capacity in Western Europe for Ukraine's defense sector remains a complex undertaking, even when political backing is secured and administrative hurdles are deliberately cleared.

Denmark has in recent years become one of Ukraine's most active supporters in Europe, including by encouraging Ukrainian defense manufacturers to establish production capacity on Danish soil. The Fire Point plant is one example of this cooperation, but its progress shows that safety and regulatory requirements can still significantly affect the timelines and costs of such strategic initiatives.
