Ukrainian forces reach Russian rear through gas pipelines in Kupiansk area
Ukrainian defence forces under the command of the "Khartia" corps carried out an operation called "Veles" in the Kupiansk direction, reaching the Russian rear through underground gas pipelines. More than 30 Russian soldiers were captured and over 100 destroyed.

Ukrainian defence forces have carried out a counterattack operation named "Veles" in the Kupiansk direction, as part of the war against Russia. Under the command of the "Khartia" corps, Ukrainian units moved more than 15 kilometres through underground gas pipelines and emerged in the enemy's rear. During the operation, more than 30 Russian soldiers were taken prisoner and over 100 were destroyed.
How the operation unfolded
The movement through underground pipelines was combined with drone strikes and an advance by ground forces. This combination denied Russian troops the chance to get behind the defenders of Kupiansk, and the operation came as an unpleasant surprise to the occupying forces.
Units involved
The operation involved the "Khartia" brigade and the "R.U.G." regiment, as well as units of the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of Ukraine's Ministry of Defence. These include the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) and the "Freedom of Russia" Legion (LSR). The "Lava" regiment and the "Achilles" brigade also took part.
