Ukraine's General Staff has reported that on August 19 and into the night of August 20, Defense Forces units struck several important facilities belonging to Russia.

Strike on the TANEKO refinery

One target was the TANEKO oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk, in Russia's Republic of Tatarstan. A fire broke out at the plant following the strike. According to the General Staff, TANEKO can process up to 16 million tonnes of crude oil per year and produces a wide range of petroleum products, including motor fuels used to supply the Russian military.

Strike on the Krasnodar region oil terminal

The second target was the Taman-neftegaz oil terminal in the settlement of Volna, Krasnodar region. A fire was also recorded there after the strike. The terminal is one of Russia's key oil hubs in the Black Sea region — the Taman transshipment complex has capacity to handle up to 19.9 million tonnes of oil, petroleum products and liquefied hydrocarbon gases annually. It handles the transfer of oil and petroleum products from rail transport to sea vessels and plays an important role in supplying logistics and fuel to the Russian armed forces.

The General Staff said the exact scale of damage at both sites is still being determined.
