Creativity and Politics
Marichka, a Ukrainian ethnomusicologist, folklorist, and public activist based in Canada, has been using her voice and art for Ukraine's liberation since the 2014 Maidan barricades. She gained international recognition through projects such as “Божичі”, “Lemon Bucket Orkestra”, “Balaklava Blues”, and most recently the band “Daughters of Donbas”.
In April 2026, the debut album “Songs of Stolen Children” by “Daughters of Donbas” reached the number one spot on the European world music chart. This achievement underscores the belief that creative individuals cannot remain outside politics, and Marichka sees it as a manifestation of the revolution of dignity.
