Ukrainian figure skater presses on toward elite sport despite war's toll on his family

Kyrylo Marsak was just 17 when Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine forced him to leave his home country. The war not only separated the young athlete's family but also cost them their home — the family's house in Kherson was destroyed in Russian attacks.

Since then, Marsak's relatives have lived with constant worry for one another as the fighting continues to shape their daily lives. Despite these hardships, the 21-year-old Ukrainian has not abandoned his athletic path and continues to skate, sustained by his parents' love and his own faith.

Speaking to TVNET+, Marsak shared his story of how the war has changed life for him and his family, yet has not stopped his progress toward the top level of his sport.
