Ukrainian Railways waives wait-room fees at stations until Friday morning
After Russian strikes on August 27 caused major train delays, Ukraine's national railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia made all paid waiting rooms at stations free until Friday morning. Passengers on trains delayed over five hours will also receive meals organized with World Central Kitchen.
Ukraine's national railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, announced that due to train delays caused by Russian strikes on August 27, all previously paid waiting rooms at railway stations will be free of charge until Friday morning.
The company explained that the threat of ballistic missiles and "shahed"-type drone attacks caused significant disruptions to train schedules. While railway workers operationally work to restore the timetable and ensure safe train movement, stations remain open to passengers.
Free access to waiting rooms applies to all passengers, including families with children, elderly people, and anyone forced to wait for their train. The company noted that water and tea are available to passengers, and so-called "Points of Invincibility" are operating, where people can charge devices and wait out the delay.
Significant delays
As a result of the hostilities, Ukrzaliznytsia trains are running significantly behind schedule. For example, the Kharkiv–Chelm train was delayed by 11 hours and 30 minutes in the morning, while the Sumy–Kyiv train was delayed by 17 hours and 15 minutes.
The company said that for trains delayed by more than five hours due to Russian attacks, meals for passengers and railway staff will be organized together with World Central Kitchen at one of the intermediate stations. Ukrzaliznytsia also advised passengers to bring water and snacks before departure, since the security situation may make journeys longer than originally planned.
