Hungary's Minister of Social Relations and Culture Zoltán Tarr announced the decision to lift restrictions on access to Ukrainian media, which were imposed under the previous government. In a Facebook post, Tarr stated that the move was taken jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He criticized the Fidesz party for arbitrarily banning Ukrainian media in 2025 in retaliation for Ukraine's blocking of Hungarian portals that spread Russian propaganda and violated journalistic ethics. Tarr emphasized that media outlets disseminating Russian propaganda cannot be equated with genuine independent press. He added that the previous government aimed to deepen divisions, while the current government seeks to build good neighborly relations, improving the situation of the Hungarian diaspora. The decision was first reported by Ukraine's Ambassador to Hungary Fedir Shandor on June 17. Among the blocked outlets were Ukrainska Pravda and European Pravda. Hungarian internet providers began restricting access to Ukrainian media resources at the end of September 2025.
