Hungary has formally notified the European Commission that it will not comply with one of the provisions of the EU temporary protection directive.

The provision in question prohibits granting protection to individuals who have an unfulfilled military obligation to Ukraine. Budapest has indicated that it will not apply this restriction.

In practical terms, this means Hungary is prepared to extend temporary protection also to Ukrainian citizens who are subject to military service under Ukrainian law and have not fulfilled that obligation.

The source report gives no further details on the reasoning behind the decision or how it will be implemented.
