Hungarian PM Magyar reveals disagreement with Zelenskyy over meeting location after EU summit encounter
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar has stated that he proposed negotiations in Berehove to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a brief meeting on the sidelines of the EU summit, but Zelenskyy declined. Alternative locations including Kyiv, Budapest, or Lviv are now being discussed.

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar disclosed details of his first encounter with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a press conference following the conclusion of the EU summit. The brief conversation took place on the summit's sidelines, and Magyar confirmed it was not a long exchange. He reiterated his proposal for a meeting in Berehove, a town in Transcarpathia, but said the Ukrainian side rejected the location.
Magyar noted that there is no urgent need for a meeting, as a political agreement has already been reached without one. However, he expressed a preference for Berehove, while Zelenskyy favors a different venue. Ukrainian sources confirmed that Kyiv finds a first full-fledged meeting in Berehove unacceptable.
Currently, several alternative locations are under consideration, including Kyiv, Budapest, and Lviv. Hungarian officials accompanying Magyar at the summit said Ukraine proposed Brussels as a meeting place, but Magyar declined. No final decision on the meeting has been made yet.
