Owlets Alma and Ansis leave the nest for independent life
Two young owls, whose development was followed via a live stream by the Latvian Nature Foundation, have left the nest. This year has been a poor one for Latvia's owl population.

Graduation season is underway not only in schools but also in meadows and forests across Latvia, as young birds and animals leave their nests and dens. The Latvian Nature Foundation has been offering a live stream from an eagle owl nest, allowing viewers to follow the family's life. This week, the owlets Alma and Ansis have finally left the nest and ventured into the big, dangerous world.
The live stream provided a window into the entire development process from eggs to fledging. Alma and Ansis were two of the chicks that hatched this year and successfully reached independence. However, overall, this year's nesting season has been bad for eagle owls in Latvia. The foundation has not specified exact reasons, but experts note that various factors such as food availability and weather conditions affect bird populations.
The eagle owl is the largest owl species in Latvia and is listed as a protected species. The Latvian Nature Foundation continues monitoring efforts to understand population changes and implement necessary conservation measures.
