US Open: Alcaraz and Sabalenka keep winning streaks alive
At the US Open, Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and Belarus's Aryna Sabalenka remain unbeaten, while an all-contender clash between Ben Shelton and Stefanos Tsitsipas awaits in the round of 16.
The US Open continued its knockout rounds, with several top players confirming strong form.
Alcaraz continues confident comeback
Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, still working his way back from injury, delivered a commanding performance in the third round against China's Wu Yibing, winning in 2 hours and 20 minutes. The first two sets were tight at 6:3 and 6:4, before Alcaraz closed it out 6:1 in the third. His next opponent will be American Tommy Paul, the tournament's 20th seed.
Shelton and Tsitsipas set for round of 16 meeting
In the round of 16, American Ben Shelton will face Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas. Shelton, currently the top-ranked American man and the tournament's 8th seed, beat Canada's Denis Shapovalov in four sets after a battle lasting three and a half hours. Tsitsipas also needed four sets to get past Czech player Jiri Lehecka, losing the opener 2:6 before storming back to win 6:1, 7:6, 6:1.
Sabalenka yet to drop a set
Women's world number one and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, competing under a neutral flag, has not lost a single set so far in the tournament. She defeated Uzbekistan's Kamilla Rakhimova 6:3, 6:4. Her next opponent will be American Taylor Townsend, who also favors an aggressive power game and eliminated Russia's Diana Shnaider 6:2, 6:7, 6:3.
Another Russian player, 21st seed Anna Kalinskaya, remains in the tournament after beating Ukraine's top-ranked Elina Svitolina, seeded 9th, in the third round by a score of 6:3, 2:6, 6:3.
