All Lanes on Jorģis Zemitāns Bridge in Riga to Open Thursday
Starting Thursday, all traffic lanes on Jorģis Zemitāns Bridge in Riga will be available, including two lanes in each direction and a public transport lane. Pedestrian and bicycle access remains restricted.

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, all driving lanes on the Jorģis Zemitāns Bridge in Riga will be opened, according to the Riga City Council. Each direction will have two driving lanes and one public transport lane, significantly improving traffic flow at one of the city's busiest junctions. Although vehicle traffic will now operate at full capacity, pedestrian and bicycle movement across the bridge is not yet permitted. Work continues on the pavement and cycle path surfaces, bridge railings, glass protective walls, and the connections to the "Zemitāni" mobility point stairs, elevators, and escalators. The bridge reconstruction is in its final phase. As reported, the renovation of Zemitāns Bridge began in November 2024. Total costs amount to up to 24.2 million euros, with municipal co-financing of 3.6 million euros and the Riga City Council borrowing 20.5 million euros. Full restoration is expected by autumn 2026. After reconstruction, environmental accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists, and people with reduced mobility will be significantly improved.
