Load testing with specially loaded trucks conducted on Kundziņsala overpass (VIDEO)
The new overpass to Kundziņsala in Riga underwent load testing on Wednesday to verify its safety and compliance with the project before commissioning.
Today, load tests were carried out on the new traffic overpass connecting Riga to Kundziņsala. Engineers used specially loaded trucks to evaluate the structure's conformity with the project and ensure its safety before the overpass is put into operation.
The new overpass is expected to bring several key benefits. Firstly, it will reduce the number of trucks in Riga city center by providing a more direct route for heavy transport to the port area. Secondly, it will speed up access to the port, alleviating congestion and improving logistics.
Load testing is a critical step before any infrastructure is opened to traffic. It allows engineers to verify that the structure can withstand real-world loads and identify any issues. Once the tests are completed and the results analyzed, a decision will be made on when to open the overpass to traffic.
