An attack on Berlin's Christopher Street Day (CSD) parade on Saturday left one person dead and 16 others injured. The incident occurred when a man drove a white van into a crowd on a path in Tiergarten park, along the Straße des 17 Juni near the Brandenburg Gate. A photo published by German tabloid Bild showed the van with a smashed hood.

Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner condemned the attack on X, writing: "It is an attack on our free and open society — after a peaceful and colorful CSD, the assembly for a tolerant and peaceful Berlin was attacked in the most brutal way." German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also denounced the attack, with a spokesperson telling Bild that the chancellor called it a "hideous act." Merz and other senior politicians attended the opening of the Bayreuth Wagner Festival in Bavaria on Saturday evening.

Berlin has previously experienced Germany's deadliest Islamist terrorist attack. In December 2016, Islamist terrorist Anis Amri drove a truck into a Christmas market, killing 13 people and injuring dozens.
