About 6,000 people watched World Cup final at Vabaduse Square in Tallinn
From July 10 to 19, public screenings of World Cup matches were held at Vabaduse Square in Tallinn, with the final attracting a record audience of approximately 6,000 viewers.
The Estonian Football Association (EFA) on Tuesday thanked all participants of the public screenings of the decisive matches of the FIFA World Cup, which took place at Vabaduse Square in Tallinn from July 10 to 19.
Over ten days, fans could watch six tournament matches on a large screen — two quarterfinals, both semifinals, the third-place match, and the final. The final match of the championship gathered a record audience of about 6,000 spectators, the EFA reported.
Martti Kallas, Public Relations Specialist at the Estonian Football Association, noted that people reacted very positively to the event, as evidenced by the large and constantly growing attendance. "The public screenings fit well into Tallinn's urban space, and we are glad that a worthy venue—Vabaduse Square—was put to such use," Kallas said.
According to him, the experience of organizing the broadcasts allowed the collection of ideas for further developing the tradition of football events in the future. "We sincerely thank all the people who followed the matches at Vabaduse Square and, through their participation, made a great contribution to revitalizing the city space. Despite the fact that at all games there were fans of both playing teams, everyone could comfortably settle in, and the atmosphere remained very positive," Kallas added.
The Football Association also thanked the company ProSecurity Partner, which ensured the safety and comfort of viewers, as well as the Tallinn City Government, with which the tradition of public football screenings was revived.
Football officials expressed hope that similar events will take place in Tallinn again in the future.
