A call has been made in Riga to restore 24-hour emergency care at the Riga 1st Hospital in order to reduce the load on the emergency departments of the two largest university hospitals. The initiative was submitted on the ManaBalss.lv platform by medical professional Rafael Ciekurs.

Currently, the two major university hospitals in Riga handle most emergency patients. Ciekurs argues that reinstating round-the-clock emergency care at the 1st Hospital would alleviate overcrowding elsewhere. The petition aims to collect the required number of signatures to be submitted for consideration by the Riga City Council and the Ministry of Health.
