German Foreign Minister: Iran must pay for demining the Strait of Hormuz
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that Iran should cover the costs of demining the Strait of Hormuz after the end of the conflict, as Tehran is responsible for the illegal mining of the international waterway.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said on Monday, July 6, in ERR radio news that Iran must bear the expenses for demining the Strait of Hormuz once the conflict is over. According to him, Tehran is responsible for the illegal mining of the international maritime route and should therefore compensate the costs of restoring safe navigation.
Meanwhile, a decision on the participation of German troops in the international mission to ensure navigation safety has not yet been made. As Wadephul noted, it will depend on the further development of talks between the United States and Iran, as well as on the approval of the German Bundestag.
Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that it is not yet certain whether parliament will manage to approve the Bundeswehr's mandate for the operation before the start of the summer parliamentary break.
