England's friendly against Ghana ended in a 0-0 stalemate, but the match's closing stages saw a controversial moment that could have changed the outcome. Ghana midfielder Prince Adu charged into the penalty area late in the second half, and England defender Ezri Konsa slid in, appearing to catch Adu on the knee with his foot. Replays showed Konsa made no contact with the ball, yet the referee did not award a penalty. BBC pundits, including former England strikers Wayne Rooney and Micah Richards, believed Konsa was fortunate. Rooney stated that Konsa took a huge risk with his feet off the ground, hitting the man and not the ball, and that it could easily have been a penalty. Richards added that England were chasing the game but still needed defensive discipline, noting that on another day it could have been a spot-kick.
