The Brussels Playbook Week Ender podcast is taking a summer break, and its producers have decided to bring back a previously popular episode. The installment, first released in June, looks at Europe's push to reduce its reliance on American technology giants.

According to the episode's description, the discussion examines what happens when the digital systems underpinning Europe's schools, government ministries, banks, businesses and security services are controlled from abroad. This raises questions about where power over critical infrastructure lies and whether Europe can respond to such external influence.

Sarah Wheaton hosts the discussion, joined by Marietje Schaake, author of "The Tech Coup" and a former Member of the European Parliament, and Laurens Cerulus of POLITICO. The conversation focuses on whether Brussels can create genuine alternatives to U.S. tech platforms or whether it should simply learn to manage its dependence more effectively.

Listeners are invited to send questions and comments to the podcast's WhatsApp account. The Brussels Playbook Podcast is scheduled to return to its regular format on Aug. 24.
