Since the escalation in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, oil prices have not risen as sharply as some analysts predicted. However, every driver in Latvia has noticed an increase in fuel prices at gas stations. This increase has raised the question of whether Latvians, in response to higher fuel costs, have started to show more interest in alternative energy sources, such as electric cars and solar panels.

In its analytical article, LSM.lv examines whether this situation has indeed prompted residents to make such purchases. The article looks at trends in the energy and transport sectors, but conclusions are not yet clear. So far, there is no confirmation that the war in the Middle East has directly led to a significant shift towards electric cars or solar energy. However, rising fuel costs could be one factor contributing to long-term interest in these technologies.
