Vaičule wins Baltic Championship in final individual race

Latvian athlete Gunta Vaičule has completed the final individual race of her career. The 31-year-old runner took part in the Baltic Championship, where she clocked 23.97 seconds in the 200 metres and finished first. It was her farewell run in individual events.

Vaičule is best known for her performances over 400 metres. Her most notable achievement came in 2017, when she won the European U23 title in the 400 metres. At today's competition, she chose to race the 200 metres and managed to secure victory with a time of 23.97 seconds.

The Baltic Championship was held in Latvia. The event was covered on video by TV4 and the Latvian Athletics Union, which produced a recording of the race. The footage shows Vaičule lining up for the last individual start and being congratulated as the winner after crossing the finish line.

Although 200 metres is not her main distance, her time was enough to outperform the rest of the field. With this run, Vaičule closes the individual chapter of her sporting career. Her name will remain in Latvian athletics history thanks to the 2017 U23 European Championship gold medal. The race took place at a championship organised in Latvia, and the moment clearly marked a significant step for both the athlete and the local athletics community.
