Latvian Autosprint Cup returns to Vaiņode with fast track for competitors
The fourth round of the Latvian Autosprint Cup will take place on Saturday, August 8, at Vaiņode airfield, marking the event's return after a year. Drivers will face a roughly 1.85 km track featuring gymkhana elements.
Competitors are set to return to Vaiņode airfield this weekend as the Latvian Autosprint Cup holds its fourth of six rounds on Saturday, August 8. The event marks the cup's return to this venue after a one-year break.
The competition is open to street and sports cars that meet the technical and safety requirements set for the Latvian Autosprint Cup. Entrants will compete in ten classes: 1600, 2000, RWD, FWD Open, RWD Open, 4WD, 4WD Open, Audi Quattro, Juniori and Dāmas.
Organizer Gatis Krastiņš said the course will use only the runway section, which has good asphalt. The track will be approximately 1.85 kilometres long. Immediately after the start, drivers must perform two rotors in a figure-eight pattern, a gymkhana element. Afterwards, the route opens up to full throttle and a mix of corners, including sharp, slow, fast and flowing sections. The combination of technical elements and high-speed stretches will demand both precision and the ability to make full use of the car and the driver's skill, with every hundredth of a second potentially decisive.
This year's Latvian Autosprint Cup consists of six rounds. After Vaiņode, drivers will head to Talsi, and the season will conclude at the Biķernieki track. As a result, the battle for championship points is becoming increasingly tight.
Spectators will have the chance to watch cars from different classes in action and compare the performance of road cars and specially prepared sports machinery on the same course. The spacious Vaiņode airfield area offers good visibility, allowing fans to follow the runs from several viewing points.
