Government approves compensation for households left without power for over three days after August storm
The government on Tuesday approved amendments providing compensation for households and businesses that were left without electricity for more than 72 hours due to the storm of August 22–23. The Ministry of Climate and Energy announced the decision.
Latvia's Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday, September 1, approved legal amendments introducing compensation for households and businesses affected by a power outage following the storm that hit the country in mid-August.
According to the Ministry of Climate and Energy, the compensation applies to consumers whose electricity supply was interrupted for more than 72 hours as a result of the storm on August 22 and 23.
The storm caused significant damage to power grid infrastructure in several regions of Latvia in late August, leaving some residents and businesses without electricity for several days. The amendments approved by the government establish a mechanism allowing the affected households and businesses to receive compensation for the prolonged power outage.
The ministry confirmed that the decision had been made, though further details on the amount of compensation and the application procedure have not yet been made public.
