On August 11, Latvia's government approved amendments to the Law on Agriculture and Rural Development, drafted by the Ministry of Agriculture. The changes broaden the country's existing national ban on importing products originating from Russia and Belarus.

The expanded restriction could include items such as candy, chocolate and beer, categories that were not previously covered by the import ban.

The amendments form part of Latvia's broader effort to reduce economic ties with Russia and Belarus in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
