Government Extends Validity of 'Honorable Family' Certificate
From January 1, 2027, families will be able to use the 'Honorable Family' certificate until the youngest child turns 18 or 24 if the child is studying or serving in the military.

On Tuesday, June 30, the Latvian government adopted a decision to expand the possibilities for obtaining and using the 'Honorable Family' certificate. The new regulations will take effect on January 1 of the coming year.
Under the amendments, families will be able to use the certificate for as long as the youngest child in the family has not reached the age of majority – 18 years. If the child continues to pursue general, vocational, or higher education, or performs compulsory military service not exceeding 11 months, the certificate will remain valid until the child turns 24.
This decision allows families to enjoy longer the benefits and rights associated with the 'Honorable Family' status, which are provided in various state and municipal programs. The specific scope and type of benefits were not detailed in the decision, but the certificate serves as recognition of the family's special status.
