Latvia was hit by a powerful storm over the weekend of August 22–23, 2026, causing considerable damage across the country. To coordinate the response of state and municipal services in addressing the aftermath, the Cabinet of Ministers convened a crisis management meeting.

Press briefing after the meeting

Following the crisis management session, a press conference was held at which agencies responsible for storm recovery efforts briefed the public on the current situation and the measures being taken. The aim of the briefing was to provide the public with up-to-date information on the extent of the damage caused by the storm and the steps planned to address it.

The fact that a crisis management meeting was convened indicates that the government regards the storm's consequences as serious enough to require coordinated involvement from multiple agencies. More detailed information on the scale of the damage and planned response measures was presented during the press conference.

LSM covered the event via livestream, allowing the public to follow the briefing from responsible services in real time.
