Latvia's government has been advised to audit its functions with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) in order to reduce the administrative burden. The idea is one of the plans of the working group on cutting bureaucracy, and it is meant to be put into practice in the near future, Latvian Radio reports.

The aim of the audit is to ease the administrative burden, so the proposal is part of the wider effort to reduce red tape in public administration. The headline of the original report says AI could handle roughly 80% of such an audit.

No political agreement yet

Political agreement on the matter has not yet been reached. The plan is therefore not final, and its implementation will depend on decisions still to be made.

A priority for the new government too

The Prime Minister's Office said that reducing bureaucracy will be one of the priorities of the new government as well. The issue is therefore expected to stay on the agenda after the change in the executive.
