€509,405 to Be Paid in Severance and Compensation After Government Change

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved €509,405 for severance and unused vacation compensation for former ministers and officials following the change of government.

The government today approved an order prepared by the State Chancellery to allocate funds from the state budget. The total amount of €509,405 is intended for severance pay and compensation for unused vacation days for Cabinet members, staff of the Prime Minister's Office and ministerial advisory officials, as well as parliamentary secretaries of ministries who lose their positions due to the change of government.

Of the total sum, the State Chancellery will receive €208,525, the Ministry of Defence – €52,262, the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development – €30,084, the Ministry of Culture – €38,123, the Ministry of Transport – €35,469, the Ministry of Climate and Energy – €49,293, the Ministry of Justice – €42,726, and the Ministry of Education and Science – €52,923.

As reported, former Prime Minister Evika Siliņa (New Unity) announced her resignation on May 14 following disagreements with coalition member “The Progressives”. The President then tasked Andris Kulbergs, an MP from the United List (AS), with forming a new government. Under his leadership, an agreement has been reached for a coalition of four political forces: the United List, the National Alliance, New Unity, and the Union of Greens and Farmers.
