Roof structure burns in single-storey brick building in Valka
A fire broke out on Wednesday in a single-storey brick building in Valka, damaging around 10 square metres of roof structure. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within roughly an hour.

A fire broke out on Wednesday morning in a single-storey brick building on Tālavas Street in Valka. The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received the call at 7:46, finding that the building's roof structure was burning across an area of about 10 square metres. The fire was extinguished by 8:50.
Other calls in Vidzeme
Over the 24-hour period from 6:30 on August 17 to 6:30 on August 18, the VUGD's Vidzeme regional department received six calls in total. Two involved firefighting, three involved rescue operations, and one turned out to be a false alarm.
At 13:33, firefighter-rescuers responded to a collision between a car and a moped on Ata Kronvalda Street in Cēsis. Crews helped clear the roadway, and the response concluded at 14:42.
Shortly before 14:00, a call also came in from Priekuļi parish in Cēsis municipality, where about 40 square metres of dry grass were on fire. The response there ended at 14:03.
Nationwide situation
Across Latvia during the same period, the VUGD received 34 calls in total: 13 for firefighting, including one forest fire, 12 for rescue operations, and nine that turned out to be false alarms.
