An event called “Digital Agriculture in Vidzeme. Data and Digitalisation for Smarter Farming” will be held on 30 October from 10:00 to 13:00 in Valmiera, at 18 Mūrmuižas Street (the premises of VAKS, an agricultural services cooperative). It will cover how farms can use, digitalise and exchange the data they have. The portal Valmieras Ziņas was informed by Anita Āboliņa, head of the Communication and Public Relations Department of the Vidzeme Planning Region.

According to the organisers, many farms already collect data about their operations but do not always use it for decisions. Records of fields and harvests, information on costs, resources and completed work can help assess what is happening on the farm more accurately and plan future work. The programme also includes examples useful to small farms.

Programme participants

Terēze Riekstiņa, a systemic consultant, trainer and business mentor with over 20 years of experience in business and consulting, will explain how data helps identify connections, assess resources and make more economically sound decisions.

Ilze Andersone, a crop farming expert at the Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre and a practising organic farmer, will use the “Mans Lauks” platform to show how digital tools help record data, plan work, make decisions and prepare reports.

Representatives of the VAKS cooperative will share their experience of data digitalisation. Indulis Āboliņš of the Rural Support Service will compare keeping records on paper and digitally, and present examples of digital data exchange between farmers and the service.

Registration and the project

Registration is open until 28 October or until all places are taken. This is the third regional stakeholder meeting in the Interreg Europe project “AgriExcel”, in which the Vidzeme Planning Region and partners from other European countries identify and assess solutions for using digital technologies in agriculture. More information is available at www.vidzeme.lv and interregeurope.eu/agriexcel.
