From August 7 to 9, the town of Valmiera hosted the Valmiera Summer Theatre Festival, held this year for the eleventh time. The event once again showed that theatre can function as a kind of language, allowing people to communicate even without words.

This year's theme: "bridges"

The festival's thematic banner this year was the word "bridges." The creators of the featured performances interpreted this theme in many different ways, effectively becoming creative builders themselves. The programme included works that carried audiences into imagined time machines, introduced them to urban myths, built castles in the air, and put characters through tests of friendship.

The recurring motif: togetherness

However, according to impressions from the festival, the most frequently recurring motif this year was togetherness itself — people's ability to be together, cooperate, and build mutual connection through the expressive tools of theatre.

The Valmiera Summer Theatre Festival has now taken place in the town of Valmiera for eleven years and has become an annual summer event that draws admirers of theatre art, offering a variety of artistic approaches to a shared theme. This year's programme once again demonstrated how broad and varied the language of theatre can be when used to speak about human relationships and connection.
