Latvian Youth X Olympiad Concludes in Valmiera
The Latvian Youth X Olympiad took place in Valmiera from June 18 to 20, gathering thousands of young athletes. The closing ceremony saw the Olympic flag handed over to Jūrmala, host of the next edition in 2028.

The Latvian Youth X Olympiad concluded with a festive closing ceremony in Valmiera. The three-day sports event from June 18 to 20 brought together thousands of participants from across Latvia.
On the final day, decisive finals were held in multiple disciplines, including athletics, swimming, judo, boxing, sailing, tennis, table tennis, gymnastics, shooting, canoeing, orienteering relays, beach volleyball, 3x3 basketball, and team sports such as football, floorball, rugby 7s, and volleyball.
In team sports, Riga state city won gold in football (both boys and girls); Cēsis municipality won gold in floorball (girls), and Ropaži municipality won in floorball (boys); in rugby 7s, Cēsis municipality girls and Jelgava state city boys took top honors.
Alongside competitions, the Sports and Health Forum continued discussions on athlete health, mental well-being, grassroots sports, and healthy eating. The forum stage also served for medal ceremonies.
At the evening closing ceremony, the Olympic flame was extinguished and the flag symbolically passed to Jūrmala, which will host the 2028 edition. A concert by the band “Dziļi Violets” added to the festive atmosphere.
A total of 218 medal sets were awarded. In the overall medal standings, Riga state city led with 140 medals (56 gold, 40 silver, 44 bronze), followed by Daugavpils state city with 76 medals, and Jelgava state city with 42 medals. All 40 participating municipalities won medals, with Alūksne municipality joining the medal tally on the final day with four judo medals.
Partners of the Olympiad included the Latvian Olympic Committee, Valmiera Municipality, and the Ministry of Education and Science, along with several companies.
