On 29 August, the New Hall of Valmiera Drama Theatre will present the European premiere of a play written by British playwright Kate Attwell. Originally penned in 2024 under the title "Big Data", the work has been staged in Latvia under the name "Tīkli" ("Networks").
The production brings together an international creative team, with artists from both the United Kingdom and Latvia working on the staging. Directing duties fall to London-born British director Jeff James.
What the play is about
The theatre describes "Tīkli" as a black comedy exploring the clash between technology and humanity in contemporary life. At its core is a question increasingly relevant to modern audiences: how clearly can a person still distinguish their own free choices from the influence of algorithms. The play presents this boundary as growing ever more blurred.
The information about the upcoming premiere was released by the theatre itself.
