Most staff vanish from State Chancellery department's website — agency says it's not a reorganization

Only two employees are now publicly listed for the State Chancellery's Strategic Communication and Coordination Department, but the government says this reflects a contact-info update, not staff cuts.

Latvijas Avīze's editorial team received a reader's question about the State Chancellery's Strategic Communication and Coordination Department, whose website currently lists just two employees publicly. The reader recalled that the prime minister had previously complained the unit employed 14 people he had never personally encountered.

Noticing this change, the editorial team contacted the State Chancellery for clarification. The agency confirmed that the reduction visible on the website is not linked to any reorganization of the department.

Only contact information was revised

Cabinet press secretary Laura Krastiņa stated that the changes concerned only the publicly available contact information section, not the department itself or its actual staff numbers. According to her, it was decided that the website would list only those individuals who serve as contact points for communication with media and the public.

Krastiņa explained that this approach ensures clearer and more convenient communication with the institution, while still allowing specific inquiries to be forwarded to the responsible staff members according to their area of competence.

Actual staff numbers remain unclear

Despite the explanation provided, the State Chancellery did not specify in its response how many employees currently work in the department or whether staff numbers have actually changed recently. The question of whether the unit still employs as many people as before therefore remains unanswered for now.
