State writes off 390 study loans, debt collection continues in 186 cases

Last year, the state wrote off 390 study loans, while debt collection continued in 186 cases. During the reporting period, 31 enforcement cases were newly handed over to sworn bailiffs, and three new court proceedings were launched against student loan debtors. At the end of the year, there were 186 active debt collection cases; in 24 loan cases, obligations were terminated and recovered funds were credited to the state budget.

Of the 13,813 state budget study loans, 392 were still in repayment or enforcement. Insolvency proceedings of debtors were also monitored, and state interests as creditor were represented.

Loan cancellation continued in cases specified in regulations. A total of 234 loans were written off for work in state and local government institutions: study loans worth €81,004 and student loans worth €14,913. Additionally, 136 student loans worth €105,117 were cancelled due to the birth of a child. Fourteen loans worth €26,545 were written off due to disability or borrower's death, and six loans worth €6,823 were cancelled after insolvency proceedings.

The VIAA also administered grants equivalent to loans. Of 724 such grants, repayment was monitored in 162 cases, contract performance was checked, and recovered funds were transferred to the State Treasury.
