Latvia's State Police published a visually striking video clip on the social network X on 22 October, hoping to recruit new staff for the post of inspector-criminalist (forensic investigator). The footage resembles scenes from popular crime-investigation series such as "CSI: Miami". The vacancies are open in the Kurzeme region towns of Liepāja, Ventspils and Kuldīga.

An invitation to join the team

In the accompanying post, the police use the hashtag #teirdarbs (roughly, "here is a job") and say that behind every event there is a story. Those interested are invited to become part of the Forensic Department team. More details about the available positions are on the police website.

Duties and pay

The State Police website states that a criminalist's daily work includes travelling to the scene of a criminal offence. There, on the instruction of the person directing the proceedings, the criminalist must carry out an examination of the scene and take part in procedural actions.

The police offer a monthly salary of between 1,421 and 1,549 euros. Additional supplements and social guarantees are also provided.

Criminalists are police specialists who work at crime scenes. With the video, the police aim to draw attention to this profession and encourage people to apply for jobs in the Kurzeme region.
