Kreišs Fails to Reach Final at European Championships
Latvia's Valters Kreišs missed the pole vault final at the European Championships after failing to clear 5.60 metres, finishing 17th in his qualification group.
Valters Kreišs did not make it to the pole vault final at the European Championships. The Latvian failed his opening attempt at 5.45 metres but eventually cleared the height on his third try.
He then had three attempts at 5.60 metres, but none were successful. Kreišs ended up 17th in his qualifying group. Only athletes who cleared 5.60 metres, or 5.45 metres on their first attempt, were able to advance to the final.
Among other Latvian competitors, Oskars Grava ran 20.69 seconds in the 200m heats and 20.27 seconds in the semi-finals. Patriks Gailums threw 79.61 metres in the javelin qualification, while Krišjānis Suntažs did not start. Anete Sietiņa recorded 56.24 metres in the javelin. On 15 August, Modra Liepiņa and Raivo Saulgriezis are scheduled to compete in the race walking events.
