Valve Appears to Discontinue Self-Repair Parts for LCD Steam Deck at iFixit

Valve seems to be ending supply of original repair parts for the LCD Steam Deck, as an iFixit staffer confirmed no plans to stock replacement batteries.

An iFixit staff member told a Steam Deck user via email that the company currently has no plans to stock original replacement batteries for the LCD Steam Deck. The response stated, "At this time it is looking less likely that we will continue receiving OEM Steam Deck batteries, and we are actively evaluating aftermarket options."

In a follow-up post, another Reddit user, who also appears to work for iFixit, clarified that Valve is sunsetting the parts, not iFixit making the decision.

While third-party batteries are widely available from retailers, it's surprising that Valve appears to be discontinuing official parts for a device released only four years ago. In 2022, iFixit's CEO said battery replacements would be "essential to making the Steam Deck stand the test of time."

Valve discontinued the LCD Steam Deck entirely at the end of 2025. After a period of stock outage, Steam Deck OLED prices skyrocketed in May, with Valve blaming increasing memory and storage costs. The Steam Machine arrived in June, with prices starting at $1,049 for the 512GB variant without a controller.
